Regional Tourism Board Occitania

Occitania was once a crossroads of cultures that flowed through ports, trade routes and pilgrimage routes. The debates were lively and allowed many new developments. Since the reorganisation of the French regions, Midi-Pyrénées and Languedoc-Roussillon have been brought together under the name Occitania – Sud de France to become the second French tourist destination covering a large part of the historical territory in all its diversity. Occitania is an authentic region with a rich cultural heritage and a breathtaking nature, located between the Massif Central, the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. Visitors will find a stunning nature, quiet rivers and canals, beautiful villages and exciting cities such as Toulouse and Montpellier. The region has many historical sites, some of which are on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The coastal seaside resorts and the Pyrenees also attract many visitors. As in the past, the new region is open to modernity. It is expressed both by its architecture and its technological innovations. The 13 departments of the region also have much in common with their colourful markets, festivals and regional specialities.
